Anatomy Of A Wool Rug

Yarn

1. The quality of the wool fiber begins with the nutrition of the sheep.

2. A hard day of shearing and bags are full of wool. My father stopped by (91) to check on the progress.

3. "Skirting" is sorting the wool after shearing and sending the best wool to the mill to be washed and returned as roving.

4. Dyeing the wool is one of my favorite steps, the choices are endless!

5. Color samples I've dyed. I have a Leicester Longwood breed I prefer for rugs; strong, dyes well and has a luster that shines through.
